Dear Yuletide Writer!
Sunday, 17 October 2021 18:52Hello dear writer! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for offering one of my requests!
You can find me on AO3 as
derwent You can find past exchange letters here.
I'm just really happy that one of my requests get offered, so honestly, as long as you heed the DNWs and include my requested characters, I'll be excited about what you write!
But, if like me, you find prompts helpful as a starting point, I do have some suggestions. Feel free to take inspiration from them - or not! Some of the requests are shorter than the others, but that doesn't mean I want them any less. Also, most of my DNWs are more of the just-in-case variety -- not likely to come up, but just to be on the safe side.
References to canonical pairings are totally fine. Feel free to write in unrequested characters, OCs, or background pairings if it would help the story.
If you have any questions or need clarification, please don't hesitate to reach me through the mods!

For fandom-specific DNWs and prompts:
She Creature (2001): Any (Lillian "Lily" Shaw, Mermaid, Lillian "Lily" Shaw's Daughter, Worldbuilding)
Opt-in: Lily/Mermaid
DNW Waiver: xeno and foot fetish is fine for this request
I love this movie so much!
Lily: I'd love to see how she builds her life back post canon
Mermaid: the movie doesn't get into her head, so it'll be an interesting perspective to write about. And why does the mermaid grant fertility to Lily (and her previous captor's wife)? Is it a ploy to make them sympathise with her and help her escape?
If you're writing Lily/Mermaid, I really enjoy their dynamic from enemies to allies in the movie, so more of that will be welcome! Xeno, especially focusing on the mermaid's tail, will be interesting. Canon divergence where Lily is stranded in the island and never gets saved by a passing ship would be great. Maybe the mermaid keeps her captive because she wants Lily's (theirs?) daughter?
Lily's Daughter: Does she realise what she is? Does she have some of the traits of mermaids (like wanting to eat people)? What about her relationship with Lily? Does she feel alienated from other people? Maybe one day she jumps into the ocean and swims to the mermaids' lair?
Worldbuilding: Mermaid culture! Some of the things I'm interested about:
Watchmen (2009): Dan Dreiberg, Adrian Veidt
Fandom-specific DNW: Dan/Rorschach or Comedian/Ozy.
If you want to incorporate details from the graphic novel, feel free to do so! But please keep the movie's characterisation for the requested characters.
I prefer slash for these two, but pre-slash or gen are welcome too! I also prefer bittersweet or ambivalent ending, or as happy as possible/realistic given the bleak nature of the canon. But of course, what makes the story work override these preferences. I don't have any preferences regarding Dan's fanonical Jewishness; it's up to you.
Prompts:
The Young Pope: Angelo Voiello, Sister Mary
Opt-in: Angelo Voiello/Sister Mary
Fandom-specific DNW: Smut. Please keep them in chaste/celibate romance.
I haven't seen The New Pope, so feel free to go with canon divergence/AU regarding the ending of the series.
I love how these two go from being wary of and scheming against each other to uneasy allies to falling in love. I know I can sound as if I'm looking at them through fluff lens, but I do enjoy how petty and opportunistic these two can be at times. Any canon-typical behaviour and characterisation are totally welcome!
They're both such complex people. That scene where Sister Mary follows Voiello at night, and he enters a building followed by a woman, making Sister Mary (and us the audience) thinks he's up to no good ... only to find out that he's babysitting a disabled man. It's such a masterful scene. And Sister Mary herself! The contrast in how she introduced herself to Lenny and to Andrew.

General Likes:
- All level of ratings

- Endings: happy endings are welcome, although not necessary. Twisted happy endings (the characters consider it a happy ending, everyone else thinks it's horrible) are welcome!
- Both healthy and unhealthy relationships are welcome! For unhealthy relationships, I'm fine with codependency, folie a deux, romanticised abuse, power imbalance, manipulation, possessiveness, obsession, stockholm syndrome, and just general dysfunctionality.

- Conflicted/mixed feelings

Lily's Daughter: Does she realise what she is? Does she have some of the traits of mermaids (like wanting to eat people)? What about her relationship with Lily? Does she feel alienated from other people? Maybe one day she jumps into the ocean and swims to the mermaids' lair?
Worldbuilding: Mermaid culture! Some of the things I'm interested about:
- It's stated that the reason the Mermaid doesn't die in captivity (like others previously caught) is because she's the Queen and has to feed her subjects. So what do the other mermaids eat during those long years she's away? How did she become the Queen?
- Mermaid reproduction: it seems that there's no mermen, plus the fact that the Mermaid can make human women fertile. Is that how the mermaids reproduce?
- Impregnating human women: what about the mechanics - does she simply make Lily fertile (so it's still her husband's sperm that impregnates her), or does somehow the Mermaid is the one who impregnates Lily? Given that Lily's daughter at the end is implied to be half-mermaid, maybe it's the latter?
- The Mermaid is not the first of her kind to be captured - the movie mentions several others. I'd love to see the various encounters humans have with the mermaids. Feel free to play with the medium here: letters, diaries, scientific/non-scientific articles, etc.
Watchmen (2009): Dan Dreiberg, Adrian Veidt
Fandom-specific DNW: Dan/Rorschach or Comedian/Ozy.

Prompts:
- Casefic during their time as masks!
- Adrian's plan didn't work out: world peace lasts for a couple of years (at most) before the world returns to its usual state of trying to kill each other. How do they face the fact that all those people Adrian murdered died in vain?
- Early 20th century archaeology AU with archaeologist Adrian. Is Dan the wealthy donor sponsoring his dig? Or maybe he's the engineer working on a nearby railroad/dam/whatever project? (Why yes, I've been rereading Lawrence)
- Historical AU. I'm partial to Ancient Greece/Rome, Victorian, or early 20th century (up to the Interwar period) but really any period would be welcome! (Per DNW, please don't change requested characters' canon gender/race/ethnicity)
The Young Pope: Angelo Voiello, Sister Mary
Opt-in: Angelo Voiello/Sister Mary
Fandom-specific DNW: Smut. Please keep them in chaste/celibate romance.
I haven't seen The New Pope, so feel free to go with canon divergence/AU regarding the ending of the series.

It's such a masterful scene. And Sister Mary herself! The contrast in how she introduced herself to Lenny and to Andrew.
Favourite scenes:
- When Voiello says, "How beautiful you are at night, Sister Mary."
- The helicopter scene, with them cannot tear their gazes away from each other as the helicopter takes off
- Voiello talking to his charge about how it's possible to love both God and a woman
- There are many books written about Voiello, from flattering to critical (one of them apparently called something like, "People who were Blackmailled by Cardinal Voiello", lmao). I'd love to see what Sister Mary thinks about those books. It'll also be interesting to see excerpts from the books compared or contrasted to how he actually acts in everyday life.
- What's the story behind Sister Mary's "I'm a virgin, but this is an old shirt" shirt?
- They're both into sports; Sister Mary with her basketball, Voiello with his football. I'd love to see them teasing each other about the superiority of their chosen sport.
- There's so much h/c potential for them after Andrew's death, so it'll be nice to see Voiello fumbling with attempts to console her.
